The second half of the 2017/2018 ABB FIA Formula E Championship kicks off: On April 14, the innovative electric racing series will visit Italy for the first time. Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler is traveling to the event in good shape.

Formula E’s tour of four European cities starts in Rome. The Italian capital appears on the calendar for the first time. The seventh of a total of twelve races will be held at Circuito Cittadino Dell’EUR, named after the Esposizione Universale di Roma district. With 21 turns and 2.860 kilometers the circuit is the second-longest one this season.

Following a difficult start to 2017/2018, Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler most recently clinched strong results. Daniel Abt in race five in Mexico celebrated his first Formula E victory and was also the first ever German winner in this racing series. Title defender Lucas di Grassi in race six in Uruguay finished in second position marking his first podium result in the current season.

The Schaeffler Group is represented in Italy by companies which are mainly based in Momo (province of Novara). Schaeffler Italia S.r.l. with 164 employees, under the Schaeffler product brands INA, FAG and LuK, sells original and spare parts for the industrial and automotive sectors. Schaeffler Water Pump Bearing Italia S.r.l. in an area of some 16,000 square meters mainly produces water pump bearings for the automotive sector and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in Italy.

Suspense galore guaranteed
Twelve races at ten events on five continents – the calendar of the innovative Formula E electric racing series is as extensive this season as never before. Three locations – Rome, Santiago de Chile and Zurich – are hosting Formula E races for the first time. The schedule at each event is tight: free practice, qualifying and the race(s) take place within the space of just a few hours.

Since the 2014/2015 inaugural Formula E season, Schaeffler, with its commitment in Formula E, has been emphasizing its position as a pioneer in electric mobility on the race track as well. Ever since the technical regulations were opened up for the second season, 2015/2016, specialists from Schaeffler have been responsible for the development of the powertrain in the team’s race car. The current model, the Audi e-tron FE04, includes technology “made by Schaeffler” as well. Together with Audi, engineers from the technology group developed the key component of the vehicle: the motor-generator unit.
